ISLAMABAD, March 14: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has put the file in cold storage after financially facilitate the private bank and also lost the case against the bank due to its non-pursuance.
According to document received by Online, it had decided to estimate the total assets and taxes of Prudential Bank, on this the FBR official Commissioner Income Tax (CIT) Sukkur had filed a case in 2000 in Balochistan High Court (BHC), which remained sub judice for the last ten years, however FBR lost this case owing to non-pursuance.
The FBR challenged the verdict of trial court BHC in Supreme Court of Pakistan. The document added that former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) ordered to conduct an inquiry of the case at high-level to determine the responsible and identify the root causes of non-pursuance. The apex court ordered to constitute a two-member inquiry committee and nominated officials of FBR Syed Ejaz Hussain Shah BPS-21 and Haroon M Shireen respectively.
The committee had nominated 25 persons as responsible of non-pursuance of the case and submitted the report in the court. “Former Chairman FBR Tariq Bajwa, member admin Shahid Jatoi and Tanveer Akhter Malik Chief Management IR used their influence and rescued about 23 blue-eyed officials and held two innocent officers Anwer Zeb and Javed Iqbal responsible for this negligence and real accused were saved”, the document added. – Online
