2022 has been declared in Kyrgyzstan the Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Resilience. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov signed the corresponding decree, his press service said. The decree was signed in order to increase climate resilience, preserve natural heritage and celebrate the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development. At the initiative of Kyrgyzstan, on Dec. 16, 2021, the participants of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution declaring 2022 the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development. Currently, issues are being worked out to promote a number of other initiatives of Kyrgyzstan, voiced by the Head of State in his messages at the UN General Assembly in New York and the Climate Summit in Glasgow. According to the decree of the president of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Cabinet of Ministers was instructed to develop and approve the Roadmap for the Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Resilience by March 1, 2022. As part of the development of the Roadmap, the issues of implementing environmental and climate measures and projects in agriculture, energy, industry, as well as projects for the development of forestry, ecotourism, emergency response, holding events at the international level, scientific and practical conferences, etc. are envisaged.
