LAHORE, February 7: Regarding the challenge of approval of Local Government Bill in Punjab, the Punjab government team met with Acting Governor Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Monday and discussed Local Government Bill.
According to sources, during the meeting it was decided that the government will hold the next local body elections directly. Moreover, in the meeting it was agreed to hold the elections of Mayor, Neighborhood and Village Council on the same day, to give the lists of reserved seats and councilors after the election.The meeting supported the restoration of the Town Committee.
As per the details, the proposal for restoration of Municipal and Town Committee in the local body system was put before the leadership. The final decision regarding the restoration of Town Committee and Municipal Committee will be taken after the opinion of PTI leadership.
Sources said that in a consultative meeting with Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Law Minister Raja Basharat and Local Government Minister Mian Mahmood Al-Rasheed, Federal Minister Monis Elahi, MNA Salik Hussain, PTI South Punjab President Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar and Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Javan Bakht also participated.-TLTP
