A new district power grid (DPG) North was opened on Tuesday in Bishkek city with participation of President Sadyr Zhaparov, his press service reported. The Kyrgyz leader familiarized with the work of the new North district power grid, inspected the building and talked with energy professionals.
Sadyr Zhaparov was shown the principle of the district power grid and presented a mini SCADA system, GIS geo-information system and call center software designed for quality customer service applications. These systems allow real-time tracking of daily power consumption and monitor and control processes, locate electrical equipment on the map, etc. Construction of the production base of the Northern DPG was started in October 2021 and completed in three months.
The existing Western and Eastern Power Grids of Bishkek carry a heavy load in servicing networks and providing electricity to consumers. The opening of the new Northern power grid will improve the quality of service and efficiency to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers living in these residential areas, as well as industrial and commercial facilities located in these areas. The new DPG will serve more than 50 thousand customers.
Speaking to local residents and power engineers, Sadyr Zhaparov noted that for the first time since independence, Kyrgyzstan launched a completely new district power grid – North, built in a short period by the country’s own power engineers. The Kyrgyz leader also added that construction of a similar DPG in Osh is scheduled to begin in a month. “We still have a very high level of consumption throughout the country. No such substations and DPGs have been built in the last fifteen years. Today we are still importing electricity. We haven’t built hydropower plants. From now on, the issue of building HPPs will be a priority, and we will overcome the energy crisis in the coming years,” he assured.
The president noted Kyrgyzstan is working hard to turn from an electricity importer to an electricity exporter. He spoke about the plans to raise salaries of public sector employees, including teachers, police officers and energy workers, starting April 1. Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that during visits to neighboring Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, agreements were reached to reduce the cost of imported electricity. Further, the Kyrgyz leader answered questions from residents of the Ak-Bosogo residential area. Local residents were interested in the construction of social facilities, including a hospital, school and kindergarten, the provision of public transportation, road repairs, gasification of the area, as well as the construction of utilities and obtaining title documents.
