In one of his speeches after carving out a homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had said.
“I cannot think of a Pakistan without Justice. I cannot imagine a Pakistan without greatness.”
That Pakistan of the Quaid’s vision has eluded us all for nearly six decades. This day — the 20th of July 2007 — the Pakistan of the dreams of its founder has finally been born. This is just ONE decision. May be it turns out to be a solitary ray of hope. But it is also a defining moment. It has a symbolic value that is unlikely not to carry its epoch-making potential and impact through the years and decades that lie ahead. Symbols are never lost to history. Chief Justice’s NO will live forever. So will live the YES of the Full Court that sat in judgment to decide whether this nation deserved to live under the Umbrella of Justice.
YES has been the epoch-making verdict of the honourable judges of this court.
May God always give us courage to say NO when NO is the right answer. And YES when YES means Honour, Truth, Dignity, Justice & Freedom.
