RAWALPINDI, February 20: The security forces on Sunday conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on the reported presence of terrorists in North Waziristan and killed five terrorists.
According to Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR), wanted terrorists including Habib Nawaz alias Shakil, Waheedullah, Abdur Rehman, and Muhammad Ullah were killed in the operation. The identification of the fifth terrorist is being investigated, it added.
“Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists including sub-machine guns, hand grenades and large quantity of multiple calibre rounds,” the statement added.
The military’s media wing further said that the terrorists were involved in activities against security forces including target killing and kidnapping for ransom.
Sepoy Shabbir Ahmed, a 28-year-old resident of Quetta, fought gallantly and inflicting casualties upon the terrorists, embraced martyrdom during an intense firefight, it said. “Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR maintained.
Earlier this month, the security forces conducted an IBO in the district on reports of  a terrorists’ hideout in the Ghulam Khan Khel area. According to the ISPR, during the search of the area, a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered from the hideout.
On January 18, two terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire during an IBO in the Thal area of the district. “Security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation on the reported presence of terrorists,” the ISPR said in a statement issued this evening.
“During intense exchange of fire, two terrorists, Ghayoor and Bahauddin got killed,” it added. “A large number of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the terrorists.”
On December 31, at least four soldiers were martyred and one terrorist was arrested during an IBO in North Waziristan. -TLTP
