There are reports that some kind of legislation is in the offing to regulate and monitor the funding and functioning of the continuously swelling number of NGOs in the country. NGO is the abbreviation of Non Governmental Organisation. And it goes without saying that the high-ranked ‘officials’ and functionaries of a large number of the NGOs operating in the country live like lords princes and queens. Their expensive lifestyles are envied by even the highest ranked state functionaries who are not known for modest living standards. I know about the head of a media-related NGO in the country whose ‘standard of living’ should be costing a fortune to the ‘eventual’ paymasters.
Whose brainchild was this concept (NGO)
This question may well be in your mind. For the answer we have to go back into the Kennedy=Johnson era in the US when the Cold War between the two Superpowers was at its hottest peak. CIA and KGB were engaged in fierce wars for supremacy. Both had allies in the world.
In that era ‘spying’ was done mostly by diplomats and the staff members of the embassies. Americans were realizing that the ‘diplomatic covers’ were proving dangerously easy to be blown up. Thus a hectic search for other avenues began. Two much more effective channels for employing spies were found. Number one—the multinational companies and the other the NGOs.
Those recruited from the multinational companies were to become double-salary earners. Funding was secretly done by the CIA and its channels. As for the NGOs, these have grown in stature and importance over the years. For most funding the CIA uses such countries as Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
The CIA’s partnership with the MOSSAD and the RAW in the countries like Pakistan has proved to be quite lethal for the targeted nations !
