KARACHI, March 18: Pakistan People’s party (PPP) has said that former President General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf’s departure from the country is a major setback to the ongoing process of strengthening the democratic system in Pakistan. In a statement Friday, PPP Karachi Division President Najmi Alam, General Secretary Nadeem Bhutto, Secretary Information Lateef Mughal and Deputy Secretary Information Manzoor Abbas while commenting on Musharraf’s leaving for Dubai said Musharraf’s leaving abroad is a serious violation of the constitution as the federal government of PMLN has taken a cover behind the Supreme Court in haste as the detailed verdict of the apex court did not permit Musharraf to leave the country. They said the PMLN has compromised over the democracy and supremacy of law and the constitution.
They said that the PMLN’s federal government has by allowing Musharraf to escape from the country committed highest level of constitutional violation. The federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has on directives of the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif ordered the subordinate authorities to remove name of Musharaf from the exit control list.
They said this tragic situation would have deep repercussion on the democracy in Pakistan and after escape of Musharraf; no dictator would have any fear for acting above the constitution. They deplored the escape of Musharaf from the country despite he has been under trial for high treason case under article 6 of the constitution.
It has now proved that there are two types of system and laws in Pakistan, one for the masses and one for the powerful elite such as Musharraf, who could not be compelled to appear in any court and spent his under trial days in a bungalow fully loaded with all kinds of luxury, said the PPP leaders. The escape of Musharraf from the country is the worst of all black incidences in history of Pakistan, they concluded. -DNA
