Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia, through its Communication and Informatics Ministry, has built partnership with third parties at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 technology exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, to expand internet outreach in the country. “To expand internet accessibility, the Communication and Informatics Ministry seeks every possible solution and option, such as building partnerships and collaborating with third parties,” Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate remarked in a press release here on Thursday.
Plate noted that the ministry was currently focused on providing access to communication, which is the key for Indonesia’s economic development for the future.
To this end, Plate highlighted that 60 percent of Indonesia’s economy is supported by small- and medium-scale businesses.
“Affordability and connectivity to expand (internet) coverage are key to supporting and developing Indonesia’s economy,” Plate noted.
In Barcelona, Plate met with delegations from the United States, Japan, and South Korea as well as representatives of some technology companies, such as ZTE, Ericsson, and Huawei.
“We look for an option to secure funding, both internal and external investment,” he stated.
On the other hand, the US State Department Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Communications and Information Policy, Stephen Anderson, conveyed the US’ support to help provide broadband access in remote regions of Indonesia.
“The United States is interested in handling broadband for underserved rural areas of Indonesia. In addition, we can help in terms of investment and support from US ecosystems through states, NTIA, USAID, and also local hardware assembling,” Anderson stated.
At Spain’s MWC 2022, Plate also watched the latest mobile communication technologies that were showcased.
During his visit to Spain, Plate was accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to Spain Muhammad Najib, Director General of Resources Management and Equipment of Posts and Informatics Ismail, and Director of the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) Anang Latif.
