Jakarta (ANTARA) – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported Indonesia’s trade balance surplus to reach US$3.83 billion in February 2022, with total exports of US$20.46 billion and imports of US$16.63 billion.
“This surplus trend occurred 22 months in a row. Hopefully, this surplus trend would be maintained in the future, so that Indonesia’s economic recovery can run well,” BPS Head Margo Yuwono stated during a virtual press conference here on Tuesday.
He noted that non-oil and gas commodities that contributed to the largest surplus in February 2022 were mineral fuels, fat and vegetable animal oils, as well as iron and steel.
Meanwhile, the United States, India, and the Philippines contributed to the largest surplus.
Indonesia’s trade with the US experienced a surplus of US$1.86 billion, with clothing and accessories as well as footwear commodities contributing to the surplus.
In the meantime, Indonesia’s trade surplus with India had reached US$850.8 million, with commodities that contributed to the surplus including mineral fuels as well as fat and vegetable animal oils. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s trade with the Philippines experienced a surplus of US$725.9 million, with commodities contributing to the surplus, including mineral fuels, as well as vehicles and spare parts. In the meantime, Indonesia also experienced a deficit with several countries, including China, Thailand, and Australia.
“With China, Indonesia experienced a deficit of US$909.4 million, with commodities that contributed to the deficit, including machinery, mechanical equipment and its spare parts, as well as machinery and electrical equipment and its spare parts,” according to Yuwono. Moreover, Indonesia also recorded a trade deficit of US$403.6 million with Thailand, with the commodities that accounted for the largest deficit being sugar, confectionery, plastic, and plastic goods.
Meanwhile, the deficit with Australia reached US$403.6 million, with commodities, including cereals and mineral fuels, contributing to the largest deficit.
Cumulatively, the surplus during the January-February 2022 period had reached US$4.79 billion.
“Based on the graph, starting from 2017 to 2021, the surplus during the January-February period was better than the previous year,” Yuwono stated.
