On 17-18 March, a government delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov visited Washington (USA).
During the two-day visit, meetings were held with World Bank President David Malpass and Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Makhtar Diop, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and her First Deputy Don Graves , US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) CEO Scott Nathan, and US Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power.
As part of the negotiations, issues of expanding mutually beneficial partnership with the World Bank and the IFC were raised and comprehensively considered, meaning strengthening support for the promotion of socio-economic reforms, attracting additional investment and technical assistance for the implementation of new projects in the fields of industry, energy, infrastructure development, banking -financial sector and business support.
Measures were discussed to increase and diversify the Uzbek-American trade turnover, deepen bilateral cooperation in the investment field, introduce advanced American technologies and innovations in various industries and agriculture, joint actions to attract American companies to do business in Uzbekistan, establish direct ties between representatives of business communities of the two countries, including through the organization of mutual visits of business and trade missions, as well as mechanisms for interaction within the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization. As a result of the visit, a number of agreements were reached on further deepening the Uzbek-American cooperation in trade, economic, investment, innovation-technological and financial-technical areas.
