A bilateral meeting to discuss the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border was held on Tuesday at the Gulistan checkpoint near Isfara town in Tajikistan, the Batken Oblast state administration reported.
Thus, the meeting was attended by Governor of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken Oblast Abdikarim Alimbaev from the Kyrgyz side, and Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, the head of Tajikistan’s Sughd Region from the Tajik side.
As a result of the negotiations, it was decided:
1. To establish a joint commission in order to solve household issues of border villages (works on cleaning of canals, irrigation water supply), repair of bridges. The commission will be headed by deputy governors of the two border regions. The first meeting of the commission will be held Wednesday in Leilek region of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken Oblast.
2. To carry out explanatory works by police and representatives of local authorities to maintain stability and peace in border villages, as well as cooperation to prevent provocations between the peoples of two countries.
3. Not to pull additional military forces into the border regions.
