the Senate of the Oliy Majlis hosted an international round table discussion on the Road Map of the Country Program for Decent Work in the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2021-2025. The event was organized by the National Commission to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor in cooperation with the International Labor Organization.
The event was attended by experts from our country and the International Labor Organization, representatives of responsible ministries and departments, media workers.
The “round table” was opened by the Chairman of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor T. Narbaeva, Director of the Bureau of the International Labor Organization for Eastern Europe and Central Asia O. Kulaeva, Minister of Employment and Labor Relations N. Khusanov, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan K. Rafikov and Chairman of the Confederation of Employers of Uzbekistan I. Khaydarov.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan, as a member of the International Labor Organization, fully and firmly fulfills its international obligations, carries out consistent cooperation with the organization for the development of labor relations.
The Chairman of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor T. Narbaeva stressed that in recent years cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ILO has reached a completely new level, a number of projects and programs have been implemented to improve labor relations and widely promote the principles of decent work, thanks to which the the system of labor relations, international standards have been introduced into the sphere, and the protection of the rights of citizens in the labor sphere is consistently ensured.
A systematic and integrated approach to work, aimed at improving labor relations in Uzbekistan and eliminating existing problems in this area, receives the full support and international recognition of the international community, in particular the International Labor Organization.
The speakers emphasized that the first major program with the International Labor Organization is the Decent Work Program in Uzbekistan for 2014-2016 and subsequently extended until 2020. The program has been fully implemented and has made a worthy contribution to improving work in this area.
The participants of the round table expressed their opinion on the new Country Program on Decent Work in Uzbekistan for 2021-2025, adopted in September 2021 in order to further improve decent working conditions and implement new projects, and the Roadmap for its implementation in 2022 -2023.
Thus, attention was focused on the fact that the Roadmap plans more than 50 events aimed at improving decent working conditions, including bringing labor legislation in line with international standards, reducing informal employment and strengthening social protection.
The Roadmap will become a kind of main formula for promoting the principles of decent work in the country and will open up new opportunities for ensuring the labor rights of citizens in the New Uzbekistan, and will also contribute to the development of economic opportunities, employment, creation of new jobs, and most importantly, sustainable development of the economy, society and the state, – said T. Narbayeva.
It was emphasized that the work carried out jointly with the International Labor Organization to create decent working conditions is becoming the main factor in the development of labor relations in the new Uzbekistan.
Director of the ILO Bureau for Eastern Europe and Central Asia O. Kulaeva noted that the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, primarily changes in labor relations, are highly appreciated by the International Labor Organization.
In particular, recently at the 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labor, organized by the ILO jointly with the government of South Africa, the participants highly appreciated the work to combat human trafficking and forced labor in Uzbekistan and stressed that the results achieved in the field are important for implementation in the country principles of decent work, ensuring employment of the population, as well as the experience of Uzbekistan should become an example for other countries.
The participants of the round table, divided into small groups, considered the draft Roadmap for the implementation of the new Country Program on Decent Work in Uzbekistan for 2022-2023 and developed proposals for its further improvement. – Uz Daily
