ISLAMABAD, June 8: The Minister of Development and Planning of Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of neighborliness with the Islamic Republic of Iran and bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, sought an increase in Iran’s electricity export to the Pakistani province of Balochistan.
On Tuesday evening, Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran received the Minister of Development and Planning of Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal, at Iranian Embassy in Islamabad.
The meeting was also attended by Mohammad Sorkhabi, Deputy Ambassador of Iran, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Deputy Minister of Development and Planning of Pakistan, Head of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and some officials of the Pakistan Ministry of Energy and Maritime Affairs.
The Pakistani Minister of Planning expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its cooperation in the energy sector, especially in the export of electricity to the regions of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, and stressed the commitment of the Islamabad government to further increase and deepen cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
Pakistan’s Minister of Development and Planning said in the meeting: “We are trying to provide electricity to Balochistan province, including Makran coast, with the help of neighboring and brother country of Iran.”
Pakistan requests Iran to increase electricity exports to Balochistan.
In the meeting, the Minister of Development and Planning of Pakistan urged the Ambassador of Iran to expand economic cooperation, especially to increase the export of electricity by 100 MW in addition to the current 104 MW of electricity to Balochistan from Iran.
Hosseini, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, while emphasizing the development of cooperation between the two countries, announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic to supply electricity to Balochistan.
The ambassador mentioned Iran’s capacities in supplying energy, construction materials and road construction in completing development projects, especially the economic projects like CPEC.-PR
