GUJRAT, June 16: A one-day workshop on “Patent “Patent Drafting and Filing” was organized in University of Gujrat under the auspices of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and Business Incubation Centre (BIC) of the varsity on June 9, 2022.
MsShakraKhurshid, Assistant Controller of Patents (ACP), Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO Pakistan), Regional Office, Lahore (Commerce Division) was the resource person. The idea of the workshop was conceived by Director ORIC Prof DrAudil Rashid and Technology and Incubation Support Center (TISC) Focal Person and Deputy Manager R&D ORIC Dr Khalid Iqbal.
While opening the workshop, Prof DrAudil Rashid, Director ORIC said total number of patents filed and granted every year is one of the important criteria for the university rankings not only by the HEC Pakistan but all over the world as well. He added patent specifications are actually complex to draft, even where the inventive concept is comprehensible and unambiguous. Writing a high-quality patent application is important because it sets out the terms by which the patent owner and others will be bound, he opined.
IPO ACP MsShakraKhurshid explained the audience to the patent system and highlighted the principles of patent specifications and claim drafting techniques, besides a couple of claim drafting exercises. She also introduced various IPO forms meant for patent filing and shared many tips for the compliance of review on patents.
Concluding the workshop, Prof DrAudil Rashid expected that the applications for patent filing will be enhanced after this workshop which will ultimately lead to grant of patents, prototype development, initiation and signing of intellectual property licensing, commercialization and revenue generation of the university. – PR
