ISLAMABAD, June 22: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Wednesday decided to deploy the Pakistan army’s soldiers for the upcoming by-elections in the NA-245 constituency of Karachi. The ECP has written a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence in this regard.
According to the letter, the ECP has requested to keep the Pak army’s soldiers on standby from July 26-28 to ensure transparent and peaceful elections for the constituency. The army soldiers will be deployed outside the polling station on the day of polling to keep them peaceful.
The ECP has made the decision in wake of an earlier by-polls in Karachi this month which turned violent with different political groups resorting to firing and violence that also led to the death of a political worker. The votes will be cast in NA-245 on July 27. – DNA
