A donation ceremony for the Global Solicitation of Olympic Collections, launched by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association and the Beijing Olympic Museum, took place in the Chinese capital on Thursday, the 75th Olympic Day.
A number of memorable items were donated during the ceremony, including a World Cup gold medal won by Chinese speed skating world champion Wang Beixing, a poster for the Beijing Winter Games that features the autographs of 13 Olympic gold medalists, and a series of Beijing 2022 themed paintings and seal carving artworks.
Sun Shangwu, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, donated the official English-language publications of the 2008 Beijing Summer Games and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics published by China Daily at the event on behalf of the newspaper.
Global Solicitation of Olympic Collections started in November 2021 and will continue to November this year. So far, more than 1,000 collections have been received, among which 527 have been certified by experts and become official collections of the Beijing Olympic Museum.
Titled the Winter Olympian and the Winter Paralympian, the publications of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics were issued daily during the Games, featuring stories from inside and outside the venues covering thrilling competitions, touching athletic moments, Chinese winter sports development and efforts to build a barrier-free society. A page dedicated to the host cities of Beijing and Zhangjiakou was featured in each issue of the Winter Olympian, adding a dash of local culture. The publications, which could be found at the Games’ media center, the athletes’ village and the competition venues, won high praise from the International Olympic Committee, athletes, delegations officials, media, foreign ambassadors and other readers for their engaging content and well-designed graphics. – China Daily
