Ten years ago, when Amanda Cassia Machado Xavier decided to accept an offer from Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG)’s base in Brazil, she became the Chinese company’s first local employee.
Xavier came from the city of Pouso Alegre, where Chinese machinery giant XCMG set up its first wholly-owned overseas manufacturing base, or XCMG Brazil, to produce construction equipment, including excavator machines, cranes, and graders.
From a receptionist and salesperson to the key account director, Xavier now has a voice in how XCMG Brazil develops locally and the changes the Chinese company has brought.
“Brazilian employees like me have acquired skills and increased their income here, and we have become more confident,” said Xavier. XCMG Brazil can now annually manufacture about 7,000 units of construction machinery products. Many Brazilian companies have reduced their staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet the Chinese manufacturer expanded the recruitment of local employees, doubling the number of staff members to more than 800. It has also ensured the normal operations of the factories to meet the local market demand during the pandemic. – Xinhua
