President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev following the meeting in Tashkent on Thursday signed a Joint Statement on further deepening and strengthening of comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries.
Kuksaroy Presidential Palace in the Uzbek capital hosted an official reception ceremony for the Turkmen President, who has arrived in Tashkent on an official two-day visit. The Heads of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan then had a one-on-one meeting, followed by extended meeting with the participation of the delegations, according to the official Turkmen media.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that Uzbekistan attaches particular importance to the first visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Uzbekistan and expressed confidence that today’s meeting will open a new chapter in the history of Uzbek-Turkmen relations.
The talks focused on the development of cooperation between the countries in the trade-economic, oil-gas, energy, chemical, automotive, textile, pharmaceuticals, food, agricultural, industrial and transport sectors. The meeting also discussed regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan.
After the signing of the Joint Statement, the heads of the ministries and departments of the two countries inked 19 agreements in the presence of the Heads of State. Among the documents are:
Agreement on the development of transport and transit cooperation;
Agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism;
Agreement on management, protection and rational use of water resources of Amudarya River;
Agreement on conducting a joint tender for initiative research projects;
Program of trade and economic cooperation and development of industrial cooperation for 2022-2025;
Action plan on practical implementation of the provisions of the intergovernmental agreement on the establishment and regulation of the Uzbek-Turkmen border trade zone – Trade Center.
Other signed documents focus on cooperation in the chemical industry, customs, railways, forestry, museums, justice, youth policy, TV and radio broadcasting, scientific and technical, and foreign affairs.
