ISLAMABAD: While its conceptions dated back to the 18th century, security in modern times had become a global concern and needed to be treated as such, said Rana Muhammad AtherJaved, Director General Pakistan House. He was addressing a gathering at an event titled Global Security Reset: Options for Pakistan, organised by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) here on Tuesday. He said that a global security recalibration had to be initiated internally. As much as conspiracy theories would suggest, external powers could do little to realign the security preferences of sovereign countries.
He added that in the current circumstances, Pakistan needed to take up mutually inclusive decisions, which kept ideology at the heart of all engagement. In addition to other factors, internal economic stability was an integral component of the desired security reset framework. In that, while Pakistan needed to accord attention to pace up with the growing globalisation, it more importantly needed to chalk out clear preferences in terms of what contemporary bloc it sought to join. -PR
