Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredow and Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Nayef Falah Mubarak Al Hajraf following a meeting in Turkmenistan on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), stipulating the strengthening of cooperation between the two parties in a number of fields, especially in economy, trade, energy, and water and food security, the GCC announced in its press release. Turkmenistan is the first stop of the GCC head’s visit to five Central Asian countries, including Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
Turkmen Foreign Minister and the GCC Secretary General considered a number of international and regional issues, and areas of joint cooperation, as well as opportunities to enhance cooperation to benefit common interests. Al Hajraf stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with Turkmenistan to serve common interests. The GCC Secretary General also held bilateral meetings with Shahym Abdrakhmanov, the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government overseeing the country’s oil and gas industry, and Mammethan Chakiyev, the General Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers.
