LAHORE, April 5: Religious parties on Tuesday provided the Punjab government with four names of the members who will negotiate over the Women’s Protection Bill.
The four-member negotiating committee comprises Asad Ali Bhutto of Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Professor Sajid Mir of the Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, Maulana Fazl Ali Haqqani who is a member of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Kamran Murtaza.
The joint committee will critically review the Women’s Protection Bill and will hold negotiations with the government in regards to it.
However, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed his displeasure with the government over its decision to negotiate with the religious parties.
He questioned as to why the government is not considering to take into account the opposition parties, specifically PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the matter as both parties have greater number of seats in the provincial assembly as compared to other parties.-NNI
