QUETTA, April 6: Authorities in Balochistan said on Wednesday that they have arrested an “Afghan intelligence agent” in the province who was planning “terrorist activities” in the area.
Spokesman for Balochistan government, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, said the Afghan security official was taken into custody during a raid in Chaman district that borders Afghanistan. The raid was conducted by border forces the Frontier Corps (FC).
A FC spokesman said the forces also recovered arms, explosives and wireless sets from the house where the Afghan official was residing. “Pakistani authorities are questioning the Afghan
agent about his activities in Balochistan,” he told the media in Quetta, the provincial capital. He claimed that the arrested man had been involved in “recruiting for subversive activities.” Afghanistan has not commented on the arrest. The security agencies also raided another compound on the basis of information extracted from the Afghan national and recovered arms, explosives, and bomb-manufacturing equipment, the FC spokesman said.
The Afghan alleged spy agent was arrested days after the authorities said they have nabbed an Indian agent in Balochistan. Indian gov’t said the arrested man was a retired Navy officer and had no link with the gov’t. -DNA
