ISLAMABAD, April 12: Supreme Court (SC) has adjourned hearing of the case pertaining to procedure for mayor and deputy mayor election in Sindh till April 14.
Chief Justice (CJ) Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked “two political parties have been coming to power persistently in the country and both have committed mistakes. Executive averts its responsibilities and shifts them to us. Reforms are needed in the country. In every matter court is asked to take suo motu action or constitute commission. Court is bound to work within the ambit of law.
He further observed “court some times goes for expediency taking into account the situation. If detailed decision of the court on 21st constitutional amendment is reviewed then it become evident the court has left it after giving observations despite immense reservations. Court compromised for the sake of democracy. If things change at the last moment then suspicions find way.
He further remarked ” taking not the small parties into confidence by majority parties has become a tradition. It would have been better that all the parties would sit together and resolve the matter instead of waiting for court’s decision. The issue of election of mayor and deputy mayor is not so big but it is matter of prestige.
A 3-member bench of SC presided over by CJ Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up the case for hearing on Tuesday.
