Actor Emraan Hashmi is receiving rave reviews for his book, The Kiss of Life: How A Superhero and My Son Defeated Cancer, but he says he doesn’t like being too open about his personal life.
“I wasn’t nervous about sharing my personal life while writing this book. I don’t get nervous about these things. But I’m reluctant to share my personal life because that’s my ideology as I segregate my personal life and my profession,” Hashmi said.
“I have done that for 12 years in the film industry because I like to keep a few things personal. I respect people around me like family members and friends. They are not, quote, unquote, glamorous people,” he added.“So, I keep their [privacy] intact. But for this [book] I [got] the consent of my wife [Parveen Shahani] because this was larger than our problem and we were trying to go out and share personal experiences with people,” added Hashmi, best known for his roles in films such as Murder, Jannat and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. Hashmi and Shahani’s son Ayaan, born in February 2010, was diagnosed with first stage cancer at the age of four in early 2014. – MD
