Pakistan left-hand batsman Fawad Alam believes the Pakistan Super League (PSL) presents an opportunity for fringe players to get selected for the World T20.
“If you do well in this tournament [the PSL] the selectors will definitely be inclined to include you in the World T20 team. I’m sure there will be many players out there who would like to do that,” said Fawad.Fawad will be representing Pakistan A in the UAE during a five-match one-day series against England Lions from Wednesday. He said that the PSL will be a big event for the cricket fraternity of Pakistan.
“It is a massive event for Pakistan cricket. Players are looking forward to interacting with international cricketers of repute and sharing their skills,” he said. The 30-year-old added that Junaid Khan, Ehsan Adil and Bilal Asif – all part of the A squad – can use the opportunity presented in the PSL to make their place in the national team.
Meanwhile, PSL chairman Najam Sethi said that the tournament will be the best thing to happen to Pakistan cricket.“PSL is the biggest development in Pakistan cricket in 65 years,” said Sethi.
Pakistan’s women’s team captain Sana Amir, moreover, believes the league will help in garnering young talent.“It is going to be very important for Pakistan’s young players to share the dressing room with the legends of the game,” said Sana. “It’s a wonderful initiative by the PCB.”The inaugural PSL will feature five teams and 24 matches to be played in Dubai and Sharjah between February 3 and 23.
