Most of the politicians in this country, unfortunately, share one thing in common and that is financial corruption. Since they have been prone to changing colours like the proverbial chameleon they frequently change their political loyalties also, therefore, they are to be found in almost every political party worth its salt. There will be a very few rulers, both past and present, here and there, who would have steered cleared of financial misappropriations. The type of corruption committed by them varies from getting their hefty bank loans written off to receiving heavy kickbacks and commissions in mega financial deals and recruiting persons in government departments by charging big amount as a bribe, so on and so forth. That is the precise reason behind the snag that appears to have hit the process of the finalisation of the TORs for probing their financial affairs in the wake of Panama leaks. There is a strong likelihood that politicians on both sides of the political divide in the country would be stand exposed if all- pervasive type of TORs were framed and, therefore, many politicians are trying to restrict the matter to the Panama leaks only. What is the harm if financial issues of the prime minister and his family are probed ahead of looking into the business dealings of other politicians? Why should the probe limited to only one family? What is sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander also. No discrimination should be made in this matter if we are to cleanse the Augean stables of the country. Let us admit that most of our rulers whether they are politicians or bureaucrats are venal. They have to be taught a lesson.
POSTSCRIPT:The holy month of Ramadhan is round the corner and true to their wont the traders of essential commodities and edibles have jacked up their price index as usual.
