  • NAB conducts raids on Raisani’s identification to nab accused in corruption case

RaisaniQUETTA, May 9: Former Balochistan finance secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani, who was arrested on corruption charges two days earlier, has confessed to his involvement in massive financial embezzlement.
Officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested Raisani on Friday during a raid on the finance department at the Civil Secretariat.
Over Rs650 million in cash including local and foreign currency
and gold jewellery weighing several kilograms was also recovered from Raisani’s residence.
On Saturday, a judicial magistrate sent the suspended finance secretary on 14 days physical remand and handed him over to NAB for further investigation into the corruption case. NAB had told the court that the accused embezzled government funds during two years, from 2013 to 2015, and stashed the looted money in his house.
According to latest updates Raisani has admitted that the money recovered from his residence was stolen from the national coffers. During initial investigation, Raisani has also revealed names of facilitators and other suspects involved in corruption on a massive scale. Sources said that a series of raids was being carried out to trace and nab the facilitators. Further arrests are likely in the investigation into the latest massive financial corruption scam to hit the province.
Meanwhile, Balochistan finance secretary Mushtaq Raisani has started disclosing the names of his colleagues involved in the corruption. According to details, NAB is conducting raids to arrest the others on the identification of Raisani. The suspect has also revealed that if NAB had delayed the action for a day the amount would have been sent abroad through the hundi system.-SABAH/Agencies
