KARACHI, May 10: World Bank delegation has appreciated the efforts of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for running a successful Waseela-e-Taleem and cash transfer scheme targeting the poor reported by Anna Fruttero who was headed the World Bank Mission during the visit of BISP Sindh Regional Office Karachi. Anna Fruttero was accompanied by Jorge Luis, Laurent Bossavie and other World bank representatives along with Aurat Foundation representatives. Azhar Ali, Director General BISP Sindh briefed the delegation about the functions and operations of the BISP and more specifically on Waseela-e-taleem challenges they face in enrolling the beneficiaries and how the BISP beneficiary women were being served at the tehsil level. DG said that BISP is the flagship social safety net programme of the country and Waseela-e-Taleem Programme is a landmark initiative of BISP with regard to the great causes of education and long term poverty alleviation. – DNA
