ISLAMABAD, May 10: As opposition parties are leaving no stone unturned in mounting pressure on the government in the wake of Panama Papers revelations, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has also stepped up, calling upon the ruling regime to hash out the matter in better interest of the country, sources reported.
COAS Raheel Sharif met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House and discussed various matters of national importance.
Sources privy to the meeting informed that the issue of Panama Papers dominated the meeting with Gen Sharif emphasisng on resolution of the matter.

Prime Minister had announced the formation of a commission to investigate allegations made in the Panama Papers that linked his family to a series of offshore companies. He had also vowed to step down if charges proved against him. “I have decided to set up a high level judicial commission headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court. This commission will decide after its investigation that what is reality and how much weight these allegations should be given,” Sharif had said in a TV address broadcast nationwide.

The army chief told the prime minister that ramifcations of Panama leaks were reflecting country’s security and economic situation.
They also discussed national security issues including border security.
The leaked papers, comprising 11.5 million documents from Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca, exposes how some of the world’s most powerful people have secreted their money offshore, and also implicated Sharif’s sons Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz.-Agencies
