The entire world must be laughing at us on the way those who move in the corridors of power in this country have treated Ayan Ali’s case. The interior ministry, the custom authorities, the trial court and the FIA etc etc, all of them must take the flak equally for making a heavy weather of a simple case against a person trying to smuggle foreign currency outside the country. By their conduct in the matter they have made a mockery of justice. For almost a year she is being kicked like a football from one end to another. If she is involved in a case of smuggling of foreign currency, which she apparently is, she should have been charged for it in a court of competent jurisdiction and convicted if the case against her is proved. The entire process should not have taken more than three months. What was the point in indulging in legal wrangling and nitpicking even before the start of criminal proceedings against her in a court of law?It is a classic case of mismanagement and lack of decision power among the powers that be. It also smacks of incompetence of the Prosecution which has taken so long even to get the ball rolling for starting the trial in the court against her
The very fact that a simple case against her has been dragged on for such a long time raises more questions than answers. Rumour has it that many sacred cows are involved in this case and she allegedly has been acting only as a carrier of foreign currency owned by the big gun for quite sometime before it was detected. The money recovered from her purse does not belong to her.
POSTSCRIPT:Taken together the prime minister has been running this country with a weighty cabinet of 42 ministers including ministers, ministers for state, advisers etc etc. When he took over as the PM he had promised to review their performance after the completion of their 100 days in office and that he would not hesitate sending home those of them who would be found wanting in meeting the targets set by them for achieving during this period. The PM has not kept his word. The ministers have been taking everything for granted.
