KARACHI: Posters and banners bearing Muttahida Qaumo Movemement (MQM) supremo Altaf Hussain’s image were removed from party strongholds in Karachi and other cities of Sindh. Footage showed MQM supremo’s posters torn and lying on the streets in party strongholds, including Nine Zero, Mukka Chowk and Jinnah ground. Posters were also removed from Hyderabad and other urban areas of Sindh. Name of Mukka Chowk changed as Liaquat Ali Chowk. And many MQM office sealed and many demolished which were illegally made on government lands. In another interesting development, the name of the party’s leader on Wikipedia has also been changed from that of Altaf Hussain to Farooq Sattar. Monday’s attack on media houses by MQM workers triggered a crackdown leading to the sealing of the party’s headquarters Nine Zero, along with several other offices, in the metropolis and elsewhere in Sindh. At least four treason cases were also registered against Altaf and his senior aides in different police stations of the city. In a separate development, MQM lawmaker Asif Hasnain was arrested from Karachi airport on Thursday afternoon. Sindh Rangers arrested Hasnain and Sheeraz Waheed, another MQM leader, in connection with Altaf’s hate speech and subsequent violence in the city.-Agencies
