It was no mean task to level the test cricket series in England so Pakistani cricket team deserves hosannas for it. The one-day series is on. Let us hope our team, particularly, youngsters, would prove Shahid Afridi wrong that there is no talent in this country as they have proved him wrong by their excellent performance in the Lords and Oval in the test series.
In Sami Aslam, Asad Shafiq, Sharjeel Azhar Ali and Sarfaraz Pakistan have found batsmen who are going to be the mainstay of our batting for a long time to come. Wahab, Rahat, Mohammad Amir and Ehsan are going to be sheet anchor of our fast bowling while Yasir Shah and Imad are good discoveries in the spin department. Who says there is no cricket talent in Pakistan?
Our groundsmen need to be told to prepare such pitches which provide assistance not only to batsmen but bowlers also so that our batsmen have a good experience of playing every type of bowler when they visit abroad , particularly , to England , New Zealand , Australia or South Africa. There will be a need to send under nineteen teams to England , the Down -Under and South Africa frequently so as to ensure that they gain sufficent experience and fresh blood is always available to our national team.
POSTSCRIPT: The quality of debate in parliament and the use of language by our parliamentarians leave much to be desired. Time was when such highly-educated and well read politicians like Mumtaz Daultana, Hussain Shaheed Suhurwardy, Abdul Wali Khan, Mufti Mehmood, Khan Abdul Qaiyum Khan, to mention a few, used to sit in our Parliament. The speeches which they delivered in the assemblies reflected wisdom , farsightedness , political acumen and above all the basic understanding of the issues which they always had in abundance. Furthermore, their speeches were a piece of literature too. No longer is the case, unfortunately.
