General Raheel Sharif has re-iterated his resolve that the Army will rise to the occasion whenever the Nation needs it either to defend the country or to combat natural calamities. This statement was given by him during his interaction with the officers and the jawans of Hyderabad Sindh garrison.
No one has any doubt about our heroic Army’s capabilities to combat and crush any external threat to the country’s borders as well as internal threats of similar nature.
One most recent example of our Army’s heroic readiness in this respect is Zarb-i-Azab through which the terrorists operating from our northern areas have been largely eliminated.
As for natural calamities and disasters, our army has proved its mettle many a time when floods or earthquakes have hit this country. The question I can’t help asking myself is Does General Raheel Sharif regard the rampant corruption and massive misrule in the country a calamity? Agreed it is not natural, and has been engineered by those governing this country— but calamity is a calamity.
