The meeting of the top military commanders in the heart of Sind capital on Wednesday was no ordinary conference. There was more to it than meets the eye. Right at the time when it was being held, the Sind assembly was also in session but while the military commanders’conference was expressing serious concern over the grown and growing corruption and lack of good governance in Sind, the so-called elected representatives of the people in the provincial assembly were whiling away their time in cutting jokes with one another and were in jovial mood which amply proved how serious they were in addressing umpteen problems which Sind faces today. They are not showing ownership of the province’s law and order. The absence of top bureaucrats of the provincial government as well of any member of the provincial government in this military commanders ‘ conference was meaningful. The insiders say that in the past the decisions of Apex committee used to be leaked off to the persons who were required to be arrested for their involvement in corruption. They were tipped off in time so that they could make good their escape from the country and that was the precise reason why no civilian was invited to this conference of the military commanders. Does it mean that this was the end of the Apex Committee?
The common man has not liked the leave of absence of the prime minister and his private visit to London soon after attending a conference in Davos. The rulers of this country cannot afford enjoying London’s snowfall when their own country is burning. Nero should not fiddle while the Rome burns. In point of fact, the prime minister should, in the first place, not have gone to Davos due to prevailing law and order situation in the country. Sometimes one feels that his policy is like the proverbial Curate’s egg, part of which is stale and off-putting!
