Mian Nawaz Sharif can quite easily be voted as the most ill-informed Prime Minister in the world. His speech on the occasion of his self-appointment as Nawaz League’s President was a classical exhibition of glorious ignorance of the weather outside his ‘walled’ and air-conditioned palatial abode.
He didn’t seem to know how much had been the foreign exchange reserves when he had managed to get himself voted into power in 2013. The figure he quoted should have made his finance team blush. The actual reserves at that time had been exactly 270% more than the figure Mian Sahib quoted.
And the current price-list of the vegetables that Mian Sahib proudly read out didn’t fail to bring laughter in millions of houses in the country. Quite clearly he had taken over-seriously disinformation of his daughter’s media cell.
The disconnect of the rulers with the reality outside their cozy surroundings is proverbial. The classical example in this case is the famous advice of the French queen to the angry protesters:
“If you can’t find bread, eat cakes.”
Mian Sahib is advising the nation: “Eat for breakfast the roads I am constructing, for lunch the motorways, and for dinner the Metros and Orange train.”
He has obviously no advice to his ‘subjects’ regarding health and education. These two subjects are surly irrelevant in Mian Sahib’s scheme of things. Health and Education are for the rich and the privileged—those who can land in a London clinic at will, and declare themselves educated overseas.
To be ill-informed and to be ignorant are not one and the same thing.
Ignorance is a subjective attribute. You may have ideal access to the most updated information, and still be ignorant. In that area Mian Sahib, quite paradoxically gets A grade on the one hand, and a Duck on the other hand.
His A grade is related to his love of DEMOCRACY. He has given new dimensions to this word, by totally eliminating polling and ballot boxes. On the 18th of October, not a single vote was cast, and yet each candidate was declared elected in the N-League party elections. It is learnt that, if given an opportunity, Mian Sahib is prepared to introduce MADE Easy version of democracy to National Elections too.
