sirajulhaqLAHORE, November 13: Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that the government had not taken the News gate scandal, an issue of national security, seriously but has warned that the matter could not be buried under the carpet as something trivial.
Talking to different delegations at Mansoora on Sunday, he said this issue could not termed as something ordinary. He said the national security institutions considered the news leaks a challenge for themselves and burying the issue would be tantamount to compromising the country’s security.
He said the explanations being given by the Interior Minister gave the impression that it was a matter of no significance but was being agitated unnecessarily. He said had the government been sincere in this respect, it would have taken the parliament and the opposition into confidence and set up an independent commission for enquiry. However, he said, the constitution of a controversial commission had further aggravated the situation.
The JI chief said it was expected that an approver would soon come to the fore on the issue and it was to be seen who would pick up the courage in this respect.
Sirajul Haq said that in a democratic system, the parliament was supreme but in this country, the Prime Minister was all in all. He said after allegations of corruption, the Prime Minister should have stepped down till his position was cleared. But, he said, unfortunately, there was no such tradition. The rulers were trying to save themselves which gave rise to doubts.
Referring to the Panama leaks issue, he said that the rulers were trying in vain to deny the facts. He said that the entire nation wanted the accountability of the Prime Minister and his family while the JI wanted the accountability of the present as well as past rulers besides the corruption mafia.
He said that the Finance Minister was inviting foreign investors for investment but there was no attempt to stop the flight of capital from the country.-Sabah
