PML (N) government in Pakistan headed by Mian Nawaz Sharif and manned mostly with his family had not made any effort to conceal its glee at the success of the Turkish President Erdogan in foiling the coup attempt by the Turkish Army with the spontaneous support of the masses who had poured into the streets at their leader’s call.
Mian Nawaz Sharif had, in all probabilities, placed himself in the position of Erdogan and General Raheel Sharif in that of the Turkish Army.
We all known that the government of Sharifs has established very special business interests with Erdogan’s Turkey— symbolized by the Metro Bus Service.
And the fact that Pakistan, since ages, enjoys with Turkey a relationship that is deeper than brotherhood and more intimate than friendship.
Infact it will be neither an understatement, nor out of context, to say that Sharifs of Raiwind had planned long time back to link their interests with Turkey, and take full advantage of the sentimental bond that had existed between Pakistan and Turkey since time immemorial.
The current tour of President Erdogan to Pakistan to address the specially convened combined session of the Parliament should also be viewed in this background. The beleaguered Prime Minister of Pakistan, locked in a battle of survival because of the Panama Leaks and the Security Breach cases, is desperately in need of some miracle. And he sees in the Endorsement by Erdogan of Mian’s Democratic Government, the great miracle he needs to give him an edge over the Army.
In Turkey, Erdogan and the Army are adversaries. In Pakistan MNS and the Army are adversaries.
But the equation is not as simple as that. Whereas Erdogan has fought the Secular Judiciary and the Secular Army of Turkey for nearly 15 years with the support of the masses to regain the lost ground for Islam, our Mian is doing exactly the opposite. It goes without saying that Pakistan Army has always stood for the ideology that created this county, and for the supremacy of the Crescent of Islam. In contrast our prime minister is surrounded by forces that are driving him towards the sinister philosophy that Progress and Prosperity of the whole region lies in transforming the Line that separated Pakistan from India from a reality into a myth.
Will Erdogan’s formal endorsement of Mian bail him out of the quagmire of corruption scandals he is caught in, and give him some kind of license to continue his secret war on Pakistan’s security forces?
