It is being said now that the under construction new Islamabad airport would be made functional on the independence day this year.The inordinate delay in its construction work has resulted in escalation in its cost of construction .It is a pity that mega developmental projects in this country are started in lopsided and haphazard manner without proper application of mind in the designing stage with the result that as the work on them proceed defects and lacunae are noted necessitating their redesigning which consumes a lot of time besides shooting up their cost estimates .This is exactly what has happened with the under construction project of Islamabad airport.It is extremely essential that there should be no habitat in the near vicinity of an airport.Due to lack of diligence many housing colonies have cropped up in the surrounding areas of Islamabad airport.One wonders how and when they are going to be dismantled ?
The Islamabad and Rawalpindi administration knew in advance about the area in which the new Islamabad airport was going to come up.How come they allowed the construction of these housing colonies?
Its name is yet to be decided. It would be better if it is named as Eidhi airport as it would be a befitting tribute to that supreme social worker Abdul Sattar Eidhi.
