The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) put the names of the cricketers under investigation for the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) spot-fixing scandal on the Exit Control List (ECL) on Monday, Express News reported.
The news came after Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar approved FIA’s request to bar all those cricketers from leaving the country.
The FIA, in a letter, asked the ministry to prevent the players from travelling abroad till the investigation is completed.
Five players – Nasir Jamshed, Muhammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hassan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif – are currently under investigation by the anti-corruption unit of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
FIA has already issued notices to four cricketers — Sharjeel, Jamshed, Khalid and Irfan.
On March 16, the players were directed by the FIA to appear before the agency on March 20 and 21 to record their statements.
The investigation into the spot-fixing scandal is being carried out by the FIA on the formal request of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The interior minister, in an earlier media talk, had stated that the FIA would carry out an inquiry irrespective of the fact the PCB was reluctant to probe the case through the agency.
Nisar said the PCB can continue its inquiry but the FIA would still also look into the case.
PCB name tribunal members
for PSL spot-fixing scandal
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a three-member tribunal for adjudicating the spot-fixing scandal.
The tribunal will be chaired by Justice (Retired) Asghar Haider, and will also consist of the former PCB chairman Lt General (Retired) Tauqir Zia and former team manager Wasim Bari.
PCB said in a press release that the tribunal was constituted after Islamabad United duo Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan formally informed the board that they seek to contest charges against them.
Both players were suspended after the first match of the second edition of the Pakistan Super League on spot-fixing charges.
As per the prescribed procedure, the tribunal will now issue notices for a preliminary hearing to both PCB and the players.
Three more players — Mohammad Irfan, Shahzeb Hasan and Nasir Jamshed — have also suspended following further investigation.
