Mian Nawaz Sharif is Law unto himself. He himself too believes so. Not only he himself believes so, his entire family believes so too. As though that is not enough, each member of his family believes also that he or she too is Law unto himself or herself.
As the countdown to the climax of the Panamagate begins, the Sharif family seems to be more and more determined to prove that Pakistan will have no place on the map if it tries to break free of the Sharif law.
In the current context, the Sharif Law says that as the JIT into the ‘Sharif affairs’ has not been constituted by the Sharif family itself, it is unlikely to fulfill the requisites of the Sharif Law, and to deliver justice acceptable to the residents of Jaati Umra Palace.
This has been precisely the message that the likes of Daniyal Aziz, Maryam Aurangzeb and Dr. Asif Kirmani have been delivering with disdainful arrogance.
This state of affairs brings to my mind the cover story of ‘Outlook” a weekly magazine that used to be published by Iqbal. H. Burnie in the early 1960s. The title of that particular issue that I am recalling to my memory showed a cricket field in which Field Marshal Ayub Khan was seen batting. The bowler running up to bowl to him was Ayub Khan too. The wicket-keeper was also Ayub Khan. Every visible fielder was Ayub Khan as well. Most importantly each of the two field umpires was the Field Marshal himself.
Quite clearly the Sharif Family wants an identical scenario to be repeated.
Imagine Mian Nawaz Sharif in each of the three seats of judgment—and Nawaz Sharif in the Box !
