Nobody should be surprised if the Bangladeshi prime minister Haseena Wajid has turned her country into an Indian colony for after all she heads the Awami League which had dismembered Pakistan and was instrumental in the creation of Bangladesh Desh in 1971 with the active military support of New Delhi. Awami League leaders are now paying the debt of their Indian almoners.
The general elections in Bangladesh Desh are due in coming January and Modi would like Awami League to be in the saddle once again because no other political party in that country can serve India’s interest better than it. Haseena Wajid has been playing second fiddle to India like her late father.
Haseena Wajid like her father has disappointed those who thought that they would uphold the democratic values while in power. The present PM of BD has managed to get a highly controversial law billed as Digital Security Act passed from her cabinet. This law gives sweeping powers to the government to send behind the bar for 14 years those who would carry out negative propaganda against her father Sheikh Mujib ur Rehman or against the liberation movement which he had led for the creation of BD. The present PM has been dealing with iron hand against her political rivals and many of them have been sent to the gallows for treason.
One cannot say whether it is her good luck or misfortune of Bangladeshi people that the track record of her main opposition leader Khalida Zia who heads Bangladesh Nationalist party too leaves much to be desired as she has a lot to live down and for this reason she has a remote chance of upsetting the applecart of power in BD soon. For the moment Haseena Wajid is firmly entrenched in the citadel of power . In the near future one doesn’t foresee downfall of the Awami League.
