KARACHI, February 23: The national accountability court has allowed the national accountability bureau (NAB) to proceed for preparing ‘Reference’ against Sindh higher education commission chairman and former federal minister for petroleum Dr Asim Hussain, who is under arrest on charges of money laundering, illegal occupation of public land, misuse of his powers as federal minister for petroleum for creating an artificial gas crisis, which affected the fertiliser companies and the national exchequer suffered a colossal loss of 450 billion spent on import of fertliser and on subsidy to the fertiliser companies, facilitating injured terrorist with provisioning of medical assistance at Ziauddin hospital and misusing this hospital as commercial entity while it has been registered as charitable trust. By allowing the NAB to proceed for the Reference against Dr Hussain, the court asked the NAB prosecutor to explain as why the authority made delay in forming the reference and if the authority does not have evidences to prove the accused as guilty then why the accused is uner custody.
The NAB prosecutor apprised the NAB court that the authority has so far completed investigation in five cases against the accused. The authority still has few days left in crossing the deadline for filing the Reference against the accused.
The NAB court by considering the NAB’s stance sent the accused to jail on judicial remand and adjourned the hearing until March 5. -DNA
