Iran and Saudi Arabia have been at daggers drawn since long. The animosity between the Arabs and the Persians is quite old dating back to the pre-Islamic era. It has assumed new dimensions, lately, due to their sectarian differences. It is growing by the day and, unfortunately, no serious effort has been made by any Muslim country to bridge differences between them. Iran is our next door neighbour while Saudi Arabia is a rallying point for all Muslim world including us. We ought to move with an abundant caution in our dealings with these two countries so that the balance is not tipped in favour of one or the other.
The Muslim world is divided as never before. It is a pity that there are more than fifty muslim countries in the world . They have grouped themselves in the so-called OIC which is good for nothing. It is a toothless political entity. Heaven is not going to fall if this Body is disbanded. The Muslims would be much better off without it.
It is a pitiable that at the moment one doesn’t see any Muslim leader in the entire Muslim world who is charismatic enough to bring all Muslim countries on one table like ZA Bhutto did in 1974.
POSTSCRIPT : Pakistan’s performance in the Asia cup cricket tournament was not up to the mark as compared to Afghanistan, Bangladesh or India whose teams put up much better show . If Afghanistan and BD continued to play with the same zeal and determination which was shown by them in the Emirates they are going to be hard nuts to crack in the 2019 World Cup now round the corner.
