I am a man of strong ‘biases’ I will never make any pretense to neutrality. Whosoever makes such a pretense is, in my view, a hypocrite.
My strongest bias is for my faith. Islam. The ‘Deen’ that Allah in his infinite Benevolence made the ultimate destination and destiny of mankind. Hasn’t Allah in the 48th Sura of AlQuran (Victory) said: “It is He that has sent forth His Apostle with guidance and the true Faith, so that He may exalt it above all religions.” ?
I fiercely believe that Allah will fulfill His promise to the followers of His final apostle and make them triumph over the rest of mankind. I also have unflinching faith in the truthfulness of the words of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) when in his Hajj sermon, he said: “Islam is your Deen from now— irrespective of your colour creed, race or language.”
I interpret this as a commandment in which we have been bound to take the Message of Allah to the rest of mankind. If this had not been the case, Islam would have remained confined to the Arabian Peninsula.
That is my strongest and foremost bias.
My next bias is for my country— Pakistan which I happen to regard as a Land destined to serve as a launching pad for the re-emergence of Islam as the driving force on the globe.
These two biases infact play a key role in determining all other biases that influence my life. I became a Bhutto- follower because of these biases, and turned against him when the realization dawned upon me that the real Bhutto was not the one I had idealized.
I have biases of similar nature today too. But these are linked with my basic inflexible biases. I judge people and the world in the light of my biases, and I am not ashamed of it. My views may be unpalatable for many but the important thing for me is that my views are my own and are not influenced by any expediencies. If it had not been so, I too would have been waving hands at huge crowds in Imran Khan’s company. That is not the way I was made.
