It is beyond my ability to believe that the Rangers have surrendered ‘obediently’ to the sweet will of Mr Asif Ali Zardari, that they are willing to function as the extended arm of the Sindh government, and that the Army Chief has called it a day regarding his resolve that the war to eliminate all pockets of terrorism and their facilitators will continue till the grand national objectives are fully achieved.
Many had expected the 17th of December to be a stormy day during which the Interior Ministry of Chaudhry Nisar Ali would respond in a befitting manner to the Sindh Assembly’s resolution that had defined the ‘No Go’ areas for the Rangers. But Chaudhry Nisar Ali in his NA Assembly speech confined himself only to the achievements that had been made in the area of fighting terrorism— and chose to keep quiet on the issue of Mr Zardari’s counter-offensive.
As far as Mian Nawaz Sharif is concerned his main concern is not fighting the perpetrators of terror (of all kinds—-including one caused by rampant corruption). His main concern is self-preservation which demands on the one hand complete verbal solidarity with the exploits of the Rangers and their Command, and on the other hand, avoidance of full-fledged confrontation with his key partner in the Democracy Project —i.e Mr Asif Ali Zardari.
Quite cleanly the huge beneficiaries of the Democracy Project have now, through tacit understanding between them, drawn a strategy to test the patience of the Army leadership.
Quite clearly each person or party that has vested interests in the Democracy Project happen to be wary of the growing popularity of the Rangers, of the Uniform, and specially of General Raheel Sharif who is increasingly being seen as ‘the much-coveted saviour’ by an overwhelming majority of the Country’s population.
It goes without saying that all the ‘profit-fetching’ projects and undertakings of the key figures of our political setup are dependent on the continuity of the Democracy Project which has now become the lifeline of all corruption in the country. The question that now matters isn’t ‘WHO IS CORRUPT? but ‘WHO IS MORE CORRUPT?’
Precisely the reason there is stalemate in the country today.
