I was asked a baffling question the other day.
“In which other country in the world, second grade arts graduates are running the ministries of Health, Petroleum, Commerce, Education, Science & Technology etc?”
Flabbergasted at first, I recovered quickly to shoot back my own question:
“Which other country in the world can boast of setting such high standards of nepotism, cronyism, misrule and corruption?”
Quite understandably there was a shared big laugh.
The only way we can keep our minds from getting blown up by excessive pressure is by laughing off our miseries.
Not always may we be able to laugh. There may well be moments when we get consumed by sheer rage at being so helpless. It needs ton-loads of patience to listen to the rulers of a calamity-ridden country telling its people that they ( the rulers) deserve highest laurels and medals for serving them ( the people) with exemplary selflessness.
By the term ‘calamity’ I don’t mean here the dengue fever or the catastrophes caused by rains and floods.
By ‘calamity’ I mean here the miserable helplessness of a hoard of sheep guarded by wolves.
How else can the statement of Prime Minister Gilani be explained that his government is going overboard to serve the people honestly and dedicatedly?
