Our national selectors, under the pressure and influence of the Karachi mafia, tried to ‘destroy’ Mohammad Amir and Wahab by throwing them out of the World Cup squad, but both fought back to grab the lead role in Pakistan’s fast attack. Amir is already one of the three key bowlers in the tournament, and Wahab’s swinging yorkers with the old ball are causing havoc.
In the match against South Africa, it was Haris Sohail’s turn to deliver a slap on the face of the selectors, the captain and the rest of the team management by showing his class. The next to make the selectors look like ‘fools’ will be Rizwan but for that we might have to wait for the next international commitment.
There is no denying the fact that before ‘captaincy’ was thrust on his ‘Karachi shoulders’, Sarfaraz was a dependable wicket-keeper batsman. Since his elevation, he has been an endless ‘yawn’. Occasionally he does give the glimpses of his admirable past, but he is not a greater player than Hashim Amla who is facing South African backlash for his lackluster batting.
Whatever the outcome of this World Cup, our team management deserves to be axed.
Just imagine how different could have been the result of the India match, if Sarfaraz had chosen to bat first, like he did in the match against South Africa! And the team too would have been the same as the one that has trounced South Africa.
Karachi did produce a great Captain in Mushtaq Mohammad. But then that whole family was God-gifted. As was Miandad. As is Asad Shafiq.
Talent has no city.
