An amnesty scheme worth replication

The prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern has proved herself to be more responsible and conscientious than our rulers, both past and present. She has made good on her promise after the mass killing of as many as 51 persons by a lunatic with heavy weaponry that she would make her country gun-free. Within three months of that incident she has managed to get a law passed under which an amnesty scheme has been granted to the arms licence- holders of automatic weapons to voluntarily deposit their weapons with the government within six months for which they will be paid their market price. It was also made clear to them that in case any New Zealander failed to comply with that order he can face a jail term of 5 years.
Why can’t we replicate this decision of her in this country ?Isn’t it a fact that there are prohibited -bore automatic weapons galore in this country?Hundreds of innocent people get killed over their indiscriminate use in blood feuds as well as sectarian clashes every year. Our parliamentarians should also hang their heads in shame over their crass indifference in the matter. Had they realised the gravity of this problem they would have collectively or individually passed a law banning the issuance of arms licence for the prohibited bore weapons. They could have pressurised the government to carry out operation clean-up for the purpose. No doubt a couple of half-hearted clean-up operations were carried out in the past but they weren’t taken to their logical conclusion due to political interference and were called off midway with the result that they could not achieve the desired results. What a pity that our parliamentarians fancy moving in public alongwith their bodyguards fully equipped with latest heavy prohibited bore weaponry!
