Bernard Shaw once wrote that not all rumours should be regarded as mere rumours; some might have their roots in Truth. Precisely why I am inclined to lend my ‘ mind’ to the rumour that the incident of the live burial of 139 soldiers/ civilians at Siachin might have been caused neither due to an avalanche nor a cloud burst, but by a Laser attack by NASA through a Satellite.
I do not deny the probability of this rumour being nothing more than ‘ the fabrication’ of some mind seething with hatred and anger against the perpetrators of the Salalah tragedy. But even if that is the case, it should now be made known to Americans that because of their anti-Islam mindset and policies, and their tendency to let their hubris be reflected in their behaviour towards Pakistan, the people of this country are moving farther and farther away from a state of mind that could be regarded as conducive to forging a genuine and dependable relationship between the two countries.
Let me cite my own example here. If my educational background and the environment of upbringing are kept in mind, I should have been among the most zealous of Pro-American minds. Earnest Hemingway William Faulkner, T.S Eliot, Ezra Pound, Mark Twain, and Edgar Allan Poe were among my favourite authors and poets in my youth; and Marlon Brando, Gray Cooper, Burt Lancaster, Spencer Tracy, Mont-gomery Clift, Cary Grant, Tyrone Power, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, Ingrid Bergman and many more of this ‘species’ were my favoured visual companions for decades. Not only that, I can also boast of having taken interest in every American election since Kennedy managed to elbow out Nixon in November 1960, on the basis of superior number of delegates despite Nixon’s superiority in popular votes.
What has poisoned my mind against America despite my belief that ‘commoners’ in the land of the opportunity are among the best people on the planet Earth?
I wish those who are running the policies of America could make an honest effort to find an answer to the above question. But I know my wish stands no chance of fulfillment. It is the collective mindset of all the imperialisms of history that is running the policies of Washington. Here is an Empire that can’t be reformed. It can only be destroyed— not by any invaders— but by its own self-destructive policies.
